You're invited to join us every third Tuesday of the month at the Downtown Nashville Public Library for our free, fun STEAM activity sessions! 
Designed with young learners in mind, these sessions, tailored for children ages 1 to 4, offer a look into magnet school themes like Design Technology or Engineering, all intertwined with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math,or STEAM. As parents, you’ll get a special sneak peek of what hands-on STEAM learning looks like in our classrooms.
What the Events Look Like
- When Tom Joy Digital Literacy & Leadership Magnet Elementary hosted its session, the team led the toddlers through a basic coding activity using sequencing. Yep: Toddlers. Coding! Families played with the BeeBot coding robots—experiencing a glimpse of the innovative curriculum awaiting them at Tom Joy.
- Another session led families through a retelling of “The TRUE Story of the Three Little Pigs” followed by an engineering challenge to build a structure that “the big bad wolf” (a powerful hairdryer) couldn’t blow down. With books sourced from the library, parents see how everyday materials can spark creativity and mirror the imaginative curriculum found in our elementary schools.
“We have loved hearing from families, understanding their questions, and providing the support they need to prepare their young ones for the educational adventure ahead,” Magnet Schools Assistance Program Curriculum Coordinator Dr. Wideline Jean-Paul said, “And there’s nothing better than seeing the spark in a child’s eyes when they’re learning through hands-on activities.”
