Hundreds of Elmington employees from 13 states converged at Carter-Lawrence Engineering Magnet Elementary on April 5 to build a playground in one day and make the hallways of the school even brighter. For many, it was their first time at Carter-Lawrence, but it won’t be their last.

For nearly 10 years, Elmington has partnered with Carter-Lawrence to support the school’s mission through financial and human resources. Throughout the partnership, the real estate company has donated over $100,000 to the school. Funds provide enhanced learning experiences to teachers and students through field trips, technology, mentors, instructional resources and more. volunteers inside school

In 2021-22 Elmington invested in an aftercare program, Elevate U, for Carter-Lawrence Magnet students. This aftercare is provided from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, at no cost to families.

“The students are the best part. They are funny, smart, kind and eager to learn. We’ve seen these kids and their siblings grow up,” said Crystal Blaylock, the executive director of Elmington Elevates, the company’s non-profit. “We are so grateful we can provide mentorship and resources for these families.”

During their most recent visit, Elmington volunteers painted images of diverse individuals in various engineering and STEAM careers. The hallways of the Edgehill school are now filled with murals of construction, chemical, civil and electrical engineers meant to inspire and remind students of the magnet school theme. As a thank you, the volunteers were fed lunch and encouraged by a special guest: the Carter-Lawrence mascot.

“This is a day that we'll remember for some time to come,” Carter-Lawrence Principal Dr. Sherleta Sanders said. “Their support over the years has meant so much to our staff, students and families.”

“The leadership at Carter-Lawrence Magnet is incredible,” Blaylock said. “They are so fiercely focused on students as full people. We are so inspired.”
