It’s that time of the school year again, time for Metro Nashville Public Schools to start celebrating our Teachers of the Year. Caroline Brooks DuBois with Principal Thomas and Dr. Battle

District leaders visited the nine finalists for the top Teacher of the Year prize on Tuesday, bringing signs, flowers, and cookies to surprised, joyful, and sometimes tearful educators, who were cheered on by their principals and students.

“MNPS has outstanding teachers across the district, and this year’s Teacher of the Year finalists represent the very best of the very best,” Director of Schools Dr. Adrienne Battle said. “These teachers work extremely hard every day to help their students learn and succeed. I’m looking forward to celebrating all of our Teacher of the Year winners from every MNPS school in a couple of months.”

The finalists this year are:

Elementary Schools

  • Meghan Bell, Crieve Hall
  • Tayla Brown, Cambridge Early Learning Center
  • Allison Marlow, Paragon Mills

Middle Schools

  • Rachael Begarly, Croft
  • Preston Weaver, Antioch
  • Dr. Kenton Wesby, Isaac Litton

High Schools

  • Caroline Brooks DuBois, Nashville School of the Arts
  • Princess Gordon-Aziz, Nashville Big Picture
  • Meredith Lavigne, Pearl-Cohn

MNPS will honor this year’s Teacher of the Year from every school and name the winners from each tier and the overall Teacher of the Year at a banquet at Music City Center on April 5. But we’ll just go ahead right now and say congratulations and thank you!
