School Options

You Have Choices!

Metro Schools offer a wide variety of unique academic programs, supports, and extracurricular activities in locations that span the city, ensuring students have access to the tools they need to thrive and be successful.

You may spend significant time researching to find the right school or the right programs for your child, and we are here to help. Partnering with you and your family, we want to provide your child with a complete educational experience that allows them to graduate prepared for success in college, the professional world, and life. two girls with instruments and face paint

School Options Step-by-Step

Step 1

Your first step is to explore your options. One of the most important decisions families make is where they send their children to school. With Metro Schools, our families have the choice of sending their children to neighborhood schools or other schools throughout the district. Living in the Nashville area, you have a wealth of resources at your fingertips, so it is very important that you be educated about those resources before you make any big decisions.

Read the Explore your Options page for more information on schools that accept external applications. We encourage you to spend time looking at our school websites, connecting with school communities, and visiting schools you may be interested in before making a decision.

Step 2

You are searching for the school that will be the perfect fit for your child. Once you have narrowed your search to just a handful of schools, we strongly recommend that you schedule visits to these schools so you can evaluate them in person. This will give you a valuable opportunity to explore the facets of each school, ask questions, and experience the school and classrooms for yourself.

For more information on school visits, see the School Tours & Visits page.

Step 3

Once you know where you’d like your child to go to school, submit an application. You can apply to up to seven schools, in priority order, and we recommend doing so to increase the likelihood you will receive at least one of your school choices. Remember, you do not have to apply to attend your zoned school.

Read the Apply page for important information and/or use the Apply to a School button below to access the online application.
