Big Book Donation

Head Magnet Middle Receives Donation of 500 Books

Head Magnet Middle School is 500 books richer after a donation Friday from WK Kellogg Co and Walmart.

The two companies brought the books, snacks and Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger to the school a mile west of downtown Nashville for a morning assembly on the last day before spring break. Head, which also has a tiger mascot, became one of just 20 middle schools across the country to receive such a donation from Kellogg and Walmart after the Tennessee PTA nominated the school for the good work its PTSA has done to advocate for students, faculty and staff. Some of the books donated to Head Magnet Middle School

“We know reading can ignite a lifelong passion for learning, spark imagination and open doors to endless possibilities,” Head’s executive principal, Kenyae Reese, told the students and others in the audience as she thanked the sponsors.

“Think back to your favorite childhood book. That story, those characters, the world they introduced, they shaped us in ways we may not realize.”

“Literacy, as we know, is the foundation on which we build our lives.”

The event, which fell during National Reading Month, also included a performance by Head’s cheerleaders, remarks by Kellogg and Walmart representatives, and a photo of this year’s weekly “Top Tiger” award-winning students with Tony the Tiger.
