An MNPS math teacher has received the nation’s highest honor in her field.
Natalie Boyd, who teaches at Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School, has been selected by the White House for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the highest honor given by the U.S. government specifically for teaching K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science. She will receive $10,000.
“Getting the Presidential Award is a huge affirmation for what I do and for how I pour myself into teaching and caring for students,” Boyd said. “In addition to the validation, the process of applying for the award — analyzing a lesson, reflecting on my teaching, and writing the narrative — pushed me to realize what I could accomplish while also teaching full time. This in turn led me to pursuing and getting my master’s degree the next year. I would encourage any teacher in MNPS to apply!”
