JC Escalante

Our schools and community grieve the loss of Josselin Corea Escalante, a radiant young woman who touched lives with her kindness, intelligence, and joy.

The Antioch High School sophomore, who lost her life in a tragic shooting at school on January 22, 2025, had a passion for learning, and her determination to excel was evident in every aspect of her life.

A dedicated student, Josselin was fantastic in math, participated with enthusiasm in choir, and shone brightly on the soccer field. Her dream of becoming a doctor reflected her compassionate spirit and commitment to making the world a better place.

Josselin’s teachers remember her as a beacon of light – a student who exuded positivity and inspired everyone around her – and the kind of student every educator dreams of.

“Her smile was so contagious, it brightened the entire room,” her Integrated Math 2 teacher, Kamesha Owens Marche, says. “A scholar with so much potential, gone too soon. Josselin was an excellent student and a great friend. She will be missed immensely.”

We stand with Josselin’s family, friends and teachers in grief. We stand with Antioch's students and staff who experienced terror and loss. We stand with our city in sorrow over the devastating act that took her.

As we navigate this loss together, we will continue to nurture and support our students and staff with care and dedication. And may Josselin’s life always remind us of the vital importance found in cherishing and supporting one another.

We are deeply grateful to the first responders, helpers, volunteers, and community members who have wrapped their arms tightly around Antioch High School and everyone affected. Your compassion and support have been a source of strength and we thank you for standing with us in our grief and healing.
