Inglewood Elementary School is a Pre-K through 4th grade environmental sciences magnet school in east Nashville. The school opened with humble beginnings in 1929 in a tent, a temporary solution used while awaiting a permanent building. Now Inglewood has more than 200 students in a 67,000-square-foot building surrounded by 1.7 acres of outdoor green space that features a brand-new, state-of-the-art playground. 
Inglewood’s students learn through a science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) curriculum that connects learning to the broader context of environmental change and sustainability. Students can participate in an award-winning Science Olympiad team, show off their learning at quarterly STEAM showcases, learn about our impact on our environment during an Environmental Connections related arts class, and attend a free after school enrichment program through a unique partnership with Turnip Green Creative Reuse.
Inglewood partners with more than 50 community organizations that provide a variety of resources and experiences for their school. Partners include Cumberland River Compact, Urban Green Lab, Small World Yoga, the Village Chapel, the Land Trust of Tennessee, and many others.
Inglewood’s vibrant school community reflects the rich diversity of east Nashville, and all members of the community are celebrated for their unique identities, experiences, and talents. Students from 17 zip codes throughout Nashville choose to come to Inglewood to be a part of this thriving school community.
Inglewood makes sure Every Student is Known by:
- Assigning every student a Navigator, which is a critical relationship with a trusted adult
- Administering academic and behavioral screeners to meet academic and emotional needs of every child
- Greeting every student, every day by name
- Maintaining an average class size below 20 students
- Acknowledging students as the Eagle of the Day, which encompasses a student being trusted with caring for the school’s stuffed Eagle for the day (a small but important activity)
- Holding weekly “family meetings” to celebrate the learning that has happened and the relationships that have been built throughout the week
“I am beyond impressed by and thankful for our entire school community. Even over the last couple of years, when maintaining that sense of community was a real challenge, our families and staff have somehow come out with an even stronger bond,” Inglewood Executive Principal Ashley Croft said. “The benefit for our kids is incredible as we live out our motto of 'Together We Grow.’”
