Apple Awards
 
red apple on a white backgroundThe Apple awards are presented each year by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce to schools that meet benchmarks mandated under No Child Left Behind. Golden Apple Awards are given to elementary and middle schools obtaining all A's in the "value-added" categories on the state report card, and Red Apple Awards are given to schools that achieved "good standing" status under No Child Left Behind.

At this year's award ceremony, 88 schools received awards for meeting one or both of these criteria. The ceremony featured remarks by Mayor Karl Dean, mayor of Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County; Dr. Connie Smith, executive director, Office of Innovation, Improvement and Accountability, Tennessee Department of Education ; Chris Henson, interim director of schools, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; Ron Samuels, board chairman, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce; Ralph Schulz, president and CEO, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce; Marc Hill, chief education officer, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
