What Makes Our School Unique?
Glendale is Nashville’s first Spanish Immersion School. Glendale offers English classes only. We emphasize the Spanish culture through art and music. Both English and Spanish Immersion classes are based on Metro and state academic standards. Grade level teams, the librarian and related arts teachers collaborate to provide a rich learning environment that challenges all students to reach their potential.
Glendale is a family centered learning environment. We welcome parents who are involved and want to participate in their child’s learning journey. Our doors are always open to parents who want to share their time and talents.
By celebrating diversity through art, music, drama, dance, and storytelling, we work together to challenge, and support all our students as they embark in a lifelong learning adventure.
What Does Our School Offer?
Spanish is taught through the math/science curriculum and conversation. After five years of the Immersion program, students will be able to read, write and speak Spanish. Research shows children involved in Immersion Programs have more flexibility in thinking, greater sensitivity to language, and a better ear for listening. It also gives the child a head start in language requirements for college.

Who Attends Our School?
Glendale is an optional enrollment school, one that has extra seats for children who do not live in that area. Students living within the school zone have the first choice at enrolling in these schools. Students living outside the school zone must apply through the lottery and go on a waiting list for space available. Optional schools range from grades K-4. Call 259-INFO for more information.
Students who attend Glendale live in the southwest area of Davidson County and are zoned to Hillsboro High School. The elementary schools in the Hillsboro cluster are: Carter-Lawrence Math & Science Magnet, Glendale Spanish Immersion, Eakin, Julia Green, Percy Priest, and Sylvan Park Paideia. The middle schools in this cluster are J.T. Moore and West End.
Community Partners
Our parent group was formed from our zoned families and the surrounding Nashville community attending through optional enrollment. Parents voted to be an independent group and provide fundraisers and volunteers for teacher and student needs.
Glendale has a partnership with “Sister Cities,” which is a local group of citizens interested in providing cultural programs for our school. David Lipscomb and Belmont Spanish students provide assistance during our Spanish instruction. Glendale parents are thrilled at the chance to have the option of their students to learn Spanish through the curriculum.
PENCIL Partners
PENCIL Foundation, a nonprofit organization, links community resources with Nashville public schools. A PENCIL Partner is a business or other community organization that teams up with a Metro school to volunteer time and donate resources that promote student success.
