What Makes Our School Unique?
As we begin our fifth year as an elementary school in the Overton Cluster, it is exciting to reflect on how far we have come in the past four years. Our faculty and staff have created a strong bond with each other that is held together by their commitment to children and excellence in education. Our students have developed a sense of school spirit and pride in being “Bright Shayne Stars” in their new school. Partnerships forged with parents and community members have enabled the school to provide special programs, equipment, and activities that enhance and enrich our curriculum and environment.
The students at Shayne are representative of our city, state, and our nation. We are proud to serve students from every socioeconomic level and several cultures. A strong character education component helps students to develop respect and tolerance for each other and their beliefs. Academically, each student is provided with the challenges and/or support needed to meet and exceed district and state academic standards. Students who leave Shayne will be prepared to meet the academic and social challenges in any middle school setting. We know that our fifth year will build upon the accomplishments of the past four years and help us to meet our goal of being the best elementary school for students in the Overton Cluster, Metro Nashville Public Schools, and the State of Tennessee. Come visit Shayne Elementary. You will feel love, excitement, and excellence in the atmosphere!

Who Attends Our School?
Students attending Shayne live in the southern most area of Davidson County and are zoned to Overton High School. The elementary schools in the Overton cluster are: Norman Binkley, Crieve Hall, Granbery, Haywood, Shayne and Tusculum. Middle schools are Croft Design Center, McMurray, and W.H. Oliver.
Community Partners
The Parent Teacher Association at Shayne is actively involved in all aspects of the school program. Parents and teachers work together to enhance educational opportunities and the school environment for the students at Shayne. The PTA sponsors a Book Fair two times per year, a Fall Fun Run, and a host of other activities. Last year’s fundraising efforts allowed the school to purchase a swing set for the playground and many other resources that support the school program.
Many other community partners participate in Shayne events such as Read Across America, Career Day, Field Day, and many others. Local businesses, such as Tusculum Ace Hardware, Wal-Mart, Fifth Third Bank, Kroger and Publix, make monetary and manpower contributions to these special days.
PENCIL Partners
PENCIL Foundation, a nonprofit organization, links community resources with Nashville public schools. A PENCIL Partner is a business or other community organization that teams up with a Metro school to volunteer time and donate resources that promote student success.
- The partnership between Shayne Elementary and Ernst & Young is in its fifth year. Ernst &Young provides valuable copying services for the teachers and assist in Career Day activities. During the holiday season, employees from Ernst & Young work with the school staff to provide holiday gifts for many needy students in the community
