The Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools announces a vacancy in the following position:

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess certification/licensure through the Tennessee Department of Education in Special Education Vision (PreK-12) or Visually Impaired (K-12).  Knowledge of and experience with methods and materials specific to students who are visually impaired, including but not limited to Braille, Low Vision Devices, Functional Vision/Learning Media Assessments, and Expanded Core Curriculum Screenings/Assessments are necessary.

 

 RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Director of Exceptional Education Services and a Coordinator of Exceptional Education Services, the Lead Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments is responsible for consulting with teachers of the visually impaired for case management of students receiving vision itinerant and vision resource services to support teaching and learning, as well as compliance related to assessment and eligibility; consulting and monitoring new referrals; consulting and case managing with assigned Coordinator of Exceptional Education Services; mentoring new teachers of the visually impaired; handling teacher and staff evaluations and work plans; making and adjusting caseload assignments; coordinating and planning vision staff meetings to disseminate and clarify information and expectations; coordinating and planning professional development for vision staff based on identified needs; handling special transportation requests for students with visual impairments and troubleshooting transportation issues;  managing APH inventory, orders, and returns. Additionally, the lead teacher of students with visual impairments serves an itinerant caseload.
