Staff Development and Training Opportunities

The Office of School Security offers staff development opportunities that will empower certificated and support staff to minimize violence in schools.  This department has offered training in such as:

ü       Crisis Prevention Intervention training is specifically geared to procedures for recognizing and de-escalating potentially violent situations involving students and parents.

 

ü       Behavior Management trainings are designed to give support staff insights into different types of behaviors as a means of developing effective approaches to engaging students. 

 

ü       Olweus Bullying Prevention and No-Bullying training, an evidence-based violence prevention program that seeks to reduce bullying behavior in elementary and middle schools.

 

ü       Second Step training instructs teachers and guidance counselors how to use the Second Step program to teach social and emotional skills to reduce impulsive and aggressive behavior in children. 

 

ü       School-wide and classroom behavior management planningThis course teaches participants how to develop and implement a school-wide behavior plan. The school-wide planning workshop is designed for principals and their school teams.

 

ü       Managing Cultural Diversity in the Classroom and Cultural Competency  seminars focus on the impact of racial diversity on the classroom behaviors and offers practical solutions for managing these differences
